SONNET Networking was founded in 1994 under the name Sonora On-line. When the company began to grow beyond the hills of Sonora, the name was changed to SONNET Networking, in March 1995. The company was originally founded to provide dial up Internet access to the residents of Tuolumne County.

SONNET provides dial up access via modem in area codes 209, 530, 559, 775, and 916. Wireless broadband is available in Tuolumne and Calaveras counties.
