Reasons to Believe

400 years ago the Church felt threatened by scientific discovery. Today the secular humanists are the ones who are so threatened. Today, only the secular humanists still cling to their precious Darwinian theory of evolution, now proven false. Scientists now know that biological evolution is a patent impossibility. There simply has not been enough time.

Witness this quote from an Astrophsicist, a self-proclaimed agnostic:

For the scientist who has lived by his faith in the power of reason, the story ends like a bad dream. He has scaled the mountains of ignorance; he is about to conquer the highest peak; as he pulls himself over the final rock, he is greeted by a band of theologians who have been sitting there for centuries.
-- Robert Jastrow, God and the Astronomers, (New York: W.W. Norton, 1978), page 116.

And from Robert Griffiths, who won the Heinemann prize in mathematical physics:

If we need an atheist for a debate, I go to the philosophy department. The physics department isn't much use.

Dr. Hugh Ross, an Astronomer, was a skeptical agnostic whose very interesting journey into faith began with reading the first chapter of Genesis.

He had decided to investigate the holy books of all the world's religions. "I figured if God, the Creator, was speaking through any of these books (I presumed He was not), then the communication would be noticeably distinct from what human beings write. ... that it would be consistent like nature is." He reasoned that if humans invented a religion, their message would contain errors and inconsistencies. He chose history and science for his test.

His initial hunch was confirmed by the first several holy books he examined. Of them all, only one had any facts right: two, out of 13. Then he opened the Bible. In the first chapter of Genesis he found 14 facts ... and no errors. He then spent one hour per day for the next 18 months looking for error in the whole Bible, and found none. He did find quite a few facts of science that were either unknowable by natural means, or contradicted the science of the day when written. Here are only a few ...

Pleiades and Orion, unlike any other visible star groups (with the possible exception of the Hyades), are gravitationally bound.

Canst thou bind the sweet influences of Pleiades,
or loose the bands of Orion?
-- Job 38: 31

When the earth was believed to be held up or resting on something, He declared it to be hung upon nothing.

He stretcheth out the north over the empty place,
and hangeth the earth upon nothing.
-- Job 26: 7

When it was thought there were only 1100 stars, He declared they could not be numbered (exceeding a billion).

As the host of heaven cannot be numbered,
neither the sand of the sea measured.
-- Jeremiah 33:22

Dr. Ross has written several books that glorify our Creator God by telling of the marvel of His creation. They include The Fingerprint of God and The Creator and the Cosmos.. From the latter a few excerpts follow ...

Instead of a bizarre creation myth, here was a journal-like record of the earth's initial conditions -- correctly described from the standpoint of astrophysics and geophysics -- followed by a summary of the sequence of changes through which Earth came to be inhabited by living things and ultimately by humans. The account was simple, elegant, and scientifically accurate. From what I understood to be the stated viewpoint of an observer on Earth's surface, both the order and the description of creation events perfectly matched the established record of nature.

        ...

The universe was made transcendently; it came from a source independent of matter, energy, length, width, height, and time. ...

... in becoming man, Christ stripped Himself of the extra-dimensional capacities He shared with God the Father and the Holy Spirit. But these capacities were restored to Him once He had fulfilled His mission of redeeming human beings from their sin. (Phil. 2: 5-11) ...

Religions that view the Bible through the limited dimensionality of the universe inevitably deny portions of God's transcendence [and extra-dimensional attributes]. ... The Tri-unity of God is taught only in the Christian faith. ... General relativity and the big bang lead to only one possible conclusion: a Creator matching the description of Jesus Christ. He is our Creator-God.

        ...

The cosmos has been crafted to make it a fit habitat for life. ... Beyond just establishing that the Creator is a Person, the findings about design provide some evidence of what that Person is like.

One characteristic that stands out dramatically is His interest in and care for living things, particularly the human race ... the mass density of the universe as huge as it is, focuses on the needs of humans ... the hundred-billion-trillion stars we observe ... -- no more and no less -- are needed for life to be possible in the universe. God invested heavily in living creatures.

        ...

In observing computer simulations of our solar system [planetary scientist George Wetherell, of the Carnegie Institution of Washington, D.C.,] found that without a Jupiter-sized planet positioned just where it is, Earth would be struck about a thousand times more frequently than it is already by comets and comet debris. ... In Wetherill's words, if it were not for Jupiter, "we wouldn't be around to study the origin of the solar system."

"Reasons To Believe" is an organization dedicated to showing how the latest scientific discoveries point to the God of the Bible, the Creator of the Universe. "Reasons To Believe" was founded in 1986 by Dr. Hugh Ross with the desire to reach the secular scientific community with the truth of the Gospel. Today "Reasons To Believe" has 20 full time staff and 60 volunteers dedicated to sharing the joy of Christ through the latest scientific discoveries. This ministry glorifies God and is being used mightily by God to bring skeptics into the Kingdom.

At this site you will find a timely article about a scientific discovery. You will also find previous newsletters, topical papers, questions and answers, a catalog of books by various authors, and more. Reasons to Believe

The TREK Experiment and ECCO

Probing the Origin of the Elements in our Galaxy

Speaking of the cosmos, perhaps some of you scientist types would enjoy peeking at a study of the cosmic rays, as scientists seek to solve a mystery.

It is the glory of God to conceal a thing:
but the honour of kings is to search out a matter.
    -- Proverbs 25:2

And who would not enjoy spectacular photographs of the wondrous handiwork of our awesome Creator, who also knows YOU by name?

"Hubble Space Telescope evokes a new sense of awe and wonder about the infinite richness of our universe in dramatic, unprecedented pictures of celestial objects. Like a traveler sharing their best snapshots, we present a selection of Hubble's most spectacular images."

    The heavens declare the glory of God;
and the firmament showeth His handiwork.
