The Constitution Standard is an excellent tool to use to reach out to others who are not yet aware of the various problems we face. The current issue focuses on education and features an excellent article by Peg Luksik. It is written in simple, easy to understand language. It should be read and passed along to others. It is published nationally and available from Lydia Kaiser : kaiser@primary.net
Eagle Council XXVI called "Best Ever."
Nearly 400 Eagles and their guests gathered in St. Louis Sept. 25-28 for their 26th annual conference, an enlightening weekend. Oklahoma¹s own Frankie Watts, wife of Rep. J. C. Watts, graciously accepted the Fulltime Homemaker of the Year Award.
Cheers and applause greeted the news from Janine Hansen that U. S. Term Limits has abandoned its attempt to achieve term limits through a Constitutional Convention. The conferees heard presentations on ominous and growing threats to our privacy and our national sovereignty and to the integrity of our election process, and on the growing momentum of efforts to federalize health care and education. Inspirational speakers restored the Eagles' enthusiasm and renewed their commitment to the battles ahead. Phyllis Schlafly's key note speech was a cogent discourse on the threats to our economy, national sovereignty and standard of living from the UN treaties promoted by the Clinton administration and other globalists. Looking to the future, strong emphasis was placed on recruiting youth to Eagle Forum Collegians and Teen Eagles. We urge our readers to find a pro-family leader in each of Oklahoma's colleges and universities to start a local chapter of Eagle Forum Collegians (EFC). An outstanding young lady, Lori Cole of Peachtree City, GA, has been named National Director of EFC. For more information write or call: Eagle Forum Collegians, 316 Pennsylvania Ave., S.E., Suite 203, Washington, D. C. 20003, 1-800 504-6332.

Eagle Forum Releases New Video Documentary, Global Governance
The orders are pouring in for Eagle Forum's new video and successor to "Crisis in the Classroom." The cost is $25. However, since we can order in quantity, we can provide it for $20. It covers the Clinton's many attacks on our national sovereignty and has sensational new material not covered by any other conservative organizations. It is a must see, and we urge you to arrange for it to be shown on Public Access TV in your area (in addition to the "Crisis in the Classroom" video). Phyllis has already started doing radio interviews.
Phyllis is now doing a weekly commentary on NET-TV, which airs on Wednesdays in prime time. NET is available to those with satellite and on some local cable programs, so ask your local cable station to air her program.
The Eagle Forum Congressional Scoreboard is accessible via EF's website at www.eagleforum.org

Education
National Testing Blasted:
Sen. John Ashcroft (R.MO) and Rep. Bill Goodling (R-PA) held a joint news conference on October 9 to reiterate their total opposition to Clinton¹s plan for national testing of students. Ashcroft says that "national tests should be shredded, bagged and hauled to the national land fill." Goodling's amendment to forbid the U. S. Department of Education from using federal funds to develop or implement national tests passed the house on September 16 by the huge margin of 295-125. Following William Bennett's bad advice, the Senate compromised by voting to allow national tests if they are run by a different committee. However, Lynne Cheney discovered that one of the members of that committee, Steven Leinwand, wrote an essay asserting that it is "downright dangerous" to teach students things like "six times seven is 42, put down two and carry four." Leinwand thinks that, since some are able to master those computations and others are not, we must throw off "the discriminatory shackles" of computations. How can we have a national math test if those in charge think it is unfair for students to be required to know that 6 x 7 = 42? Senator Ashcroft has promised to filibuster any bill that includes funds for national tests. Parents who care about local control of schools should ask their Senators to join Ashcroft's filibuster. (Note: Sen. Ashcroft appears to be making a bid for the Rep. nomination for President. While we appreciate his taking a stand against National Testing, and his campaign speeches are appealing to conservatives, he has a mixed political record which bears further scrutiny before jumping on his bandwagon.)While Governor Frank Keating said President Clinton's plans for national school testing are seriously flawed and urged Congress to reject the testing program (with a price tag of $50 million just to develop the tests) and leave student testing to the states, he said he supports Oklahoma's involvement in the National Assessment of Education Progress (NAEP), which will be the new national test, measuring student learning against national and international standards. (Order tape #5.)
Keep a close eye on your children and their schools. While some in state government continue to deny that we have School-to-Work, programs are in the initial stages for most 8th graders, and parents should be alert to recognize it when children bring home papers promoting "Career Choices," etc. (Tapes #3 & 6, and read "A Touch of Gold," by Peg Luksik in the Constitutional Standard.)
U.S. Debt Clock Ticks Away
According to information from the U.S. Department of the Treasury and the U.S. Bureau of the Census, the Outstanding Public Debt as of June 18, 1997 at 6:34:19 AM PDT was: $5,356,470,255,114.64. Each citizen's share of this debt is $20,025.57. The debt is increasing by an average of $629 million/day.Compromise Budget Bill Passed
Since last year's election of a Democrat President and Republican Congress, Trent Lott and other GOPers have taken it as a directive for the two branches of government to work together, rather than to keep each other in check (as the Constitution directs). In the past, congressional leaders have viewed their role as taking the initiative, putting the President to the test and inviting a confrontational veto if necessary. The Republican Congress has done just the opposite. While a cooperative effort is permissible, it is only acceptable after each of the two houses has passed a bill, and each has authorized a joint committee to reconcile the differences between the two legislative bodies‹not to broker those differences through the office of the President. This budget deal was presented to the President for his approval and then returned to the House and Senate for their approval or veto. We are proud of Representives Coburn, Largent and Istook and Sen. Inhofe for standing firm, and voting against this Budget Deal, but dismayed that Representatives Brewster, Lucas, Watkins, and Sen. Nickles voted for this atrocity which does not balance the budget. It creates new socialized medicine entitlements alloting $24 billion to the Child Health Care program, increases federal funding for Planned Parenthood and education, yields to the tax claims of the UN General Assembly, and subsidizes the Export-Import Bank ($632 Million), the Overseas Private Investment Corp. ($32 Million) and the Trade and Development Agency ($40 Million).UN Treaties:
There are many UN Treaties that may come before the Senate soon. All would rob us of our national sovereignty and allow UN tribunals and NGOs to control our lives and property, in the name of "Biodiversity," "American Heritage Rivers," equality, clean air, etc. Please ask Senators Inhofe and Nickles to vigorously oppose all UN treaties. The administrationís policy of setting aside vast areas of U.S. land as restricted-use "biosphere reserves" under the control of UNESCO's and the Biosphere (MAB) program has been slowed down, but not stopped.. On 10/8, the House passed the American Land Sovereignty Act (HR 901), which provides that no U.S. property may be designated as UN "biosphere reserves" or a UN World Heritage Site without the consent of Congress. It is impossible for us to cover the treaties in depth. Therefore, we urge you to order tapes #1, 2 and 10, and invite friends to listen. Videos are also available.
SAFE, HR 695:
The original bill would have ensured our privacy on the Internet, e-mail, etc. However Reps. Oxley and Manton are attempting to gut it by their FBI/Clinton-supported amendment to ban encryption products that do not provide the government with "immediate access" to all of our private online communications. (The amendment is analogous to the government requiring that surveillance cameras be installed in all new homes built in the U.S.). This bad amendment passed the Commerce Committee, of which Steve Largent is a member. Ask all Congressmen to oppose the SAFE bill unless the Oxley/Manton Amendment is defeated. We want the bill in its original form.Omnibus Patent bill, S.507.
Could be voted on anytime soon. S 507: Is a betrayal of inventors' constitutional property rights; Would require the early publication of patent applications, before the inventor receives a patent, thereby enabling copycat pirates to steal the inventor's property; Would allow foreign and domestic corporations to force re-examination of all existing patents; Would replace the patent office with a "corporation" dominated by multinationals. No amendments can make this a good bill. (The House version, H.R. 400, has already passed the House.)Louisiana¹s "Buy-You Buy Out."
The travesty of Woody Jenkins' stolen election has been topped only by the Senate Rules Committee buy out. The buy out comes with the price tag of a Senate Seat and all future elections held in the country. The Senate Rules Committee recently voted unamimously to terminate the probe before completing its investigation. By doing this they threw open the door and welcomed the thieves. The Rules committee consists of 9 Republicans (including Don Nickles and Trent Lott) and 7 Democrats. Five Eagles, including OK National Committeewoman, traveled to D.C. to lobby them, hoping to prevent more than two Republicans from capitulating. It is shocking that all ignored their pleas and voted unanimously against Woody Jenkins in spite of concrete evidence of vote fraud. This vote is further evidence that this Republican-lead Congress is reinstituting Gerald Ford¹s theory of Conciliation, Concession and Compromise.Meanwhile, the Baton Rouge District Attorney is continuing his criminal investigation of election fraud in Louisiana. Woody Jenkins can submit any additional evidence that results from the criminal investigation, and the matter can be reopened in the Rules committee. Whatever the final outcome, Woody has placed a challenge before all of us to be thegatekeepers of our own state elections, and be alert to: multiple voting by same individuals, forged signatures on precinct registers, failure to purge felons from voting rolls, and illegal use of corporate funds by candidates, particularly by gambling interests. (Since Casino Gambling will be decided in Oklahoma on Feb. 10, 1998, we need to be particularly alert to political activity by gambling interests.) Order tapes # 12 & 13.
Tax Code Termination Act:
Rep. Steve Largent has announced his bill which would sunset the burdensome IRS code on Dec. 31, 2001, and would replace it with a new tax code. Congress and the others will now begin the national debate on how to replace it.Freedom From Religious Persecution Act, H.R. 2431, Is a Hoax:
written by the globalist Hudson Institute, introduced by Rep. Frank Wolf, and promoted by some Christian leaders who must have not closely examined it, may be a trap for conservatives set by internationalists. Nothing in this bill prevents the monitoring of religions in the U.S., and "religion" is not even defined in the bill. It would: establish an Office of Religious Persecution Monitoring (ORPM), another bureaucracy that would unconstitutionally bypass Congress and consolidate more power in the Executive Branch; train gov't. employees to rate and judge religions; promote World Government by citing the authority of the UN Charter and other global organizations. This bill is now in the House International Relations Comm. and is scheduled for a full committee hearing next week. (AFA of Georgia, 912/ 244-8493, e-mail afaga@datasys.net)Please attend the hearing concerning the proposed Abstinence Education State Plan (see Calendar). We are pleased that the Committee is friendly to our cause. However, there may be many in attendance who would want to gut the program. This federally mandated program in not intended as a "cure-all" for either teen pregnancy or out of wedlock births. Other programs with other approaches will continue; however, this program is mandated to be separate from other programs in order to see if a new "abstinence only" approach will be effective. Mary Rumph is Eagle forum's Chairman for Abstinence Education. Please call her at 405/ 233-9619 if you would like to help monitor the program in your area. Our tape #11 would be helpful to get you started.
Parents of 6th graders at Tulsa's Edison Middle School are complaining about the program, What Color Is your Personality, also known as True Colors. The children are assigned a color based on personality traits, such as "Do you naturally obey authority?" They are then subjectively evaluated by teachers and peers. The colors are used to label children under the guise of handling discipline problems and in the name of prevention. The colors are translated into a computer code. This is known as esoteric psychology, and it is deeply occult. They label the kids in advance of their "sins." Is this to determine who will be chosen to be our future leaders?
Nosy Questions:
Tell your children they do not have to answer personal questions in school surveys, tests, games or counseling. Some such questions might be about attitudes or opinions, what goes on in your home, personal problems, sexual behavior or your friends. If the school asks such questions, your child should (1) tell the teacher he is not going to answer because his parents told him not to, (2) report to you, and bring home a copy of the questions, or (3) turn the paper in blank (or check an answer that means "no opinion." Please send copies of privacy-invading questionnaires to our national office."TWO," a book , which says, I Have 2 Dogs, I Have 2 Cats and I Have 2 Daddies, has been discovered in Tulsa public school first or second grade classrooms or libraries. This book obviously promotes homosexuality. Look for such books in your child's classroom. The NEA's Human and Civil Rights Action Sheet sets forth the NEA's gay/lesbian agenda, including, "Work with the school district to develop or expand school policy and curricula, including accurate portrayals of gays, lesbians, and bisexuals...and to insure respect for diversity, including gays, lesbians and bisexuals."
Parents Beware of Operation Aware (OA). OA is still found in many public schools -- and it has not improved since we first discovered it years ago. We offer the following insights from an alert parent of a third grade Union student, who visited four sessions before being denied access to the remaining 6 sessions. She witnessed that OA: interrupted a math class; was taught by a non-certified person; presented "relative" truth; allowed the practice of psychology by an unlicensed practitioner; used Transcendental Meditation techniques, such as "self-talk" (mantra) and visualization; repeatedly broke its own "no-name" rule. This parent was not allowed to review the rest of the OA materials, and therefore withdrew her child from the program.
